Google introduced three new features for Google Map users in India, this Tuesday.
From now onwards, users can track live train status for Indian Railway trains. Other two features are bus travel times and mixed mode directions on live traffic.
Live Train Tracking
Now, customers will be able to access a list of trains that they take between the routes. Users will need to enter the Starting Location and their Destination. Apart from all of this, they will also get to know if the train will be delayed, for any reason whatsoever.
This feature came months after Google took over Sigmoid Labs, which developed the "Where is my Train" app.The platform had more than 10 million users in India only. Google acquired Sigmoid for $40 million.
Live Traffic
Next feature, we got Live Traffic. Though we know this was already a part of Google Maps, but, here are some new updates to it.
Now, Google Maps users will be able to view their bus travel times, and that too based on live traffic. So, you'll always get your bus on time :) It will use company's live traffic data and public bus schedules to calculate delays and deliver accurate travel ETA.
Mixed Mode Directions
This feature on Google Maps if taking journey from a public transport is a good option. This combines auto-rickshaw and other public transports.
Also, users will be able to see how much time it will take, and from which station/location, they should take an auto rickshaw. They can not only see the departure times, but also the meter estimate! Now that's an update. In its initial release, the feature will only be available in Delhi and Bangalore before launching in other cities.
At last, we know it is going to help people across India a lot, as it is a highly populated country and at a high development pace. The feature is already available for many other countries. Google continues to work on public transports and making our lives easier.
